Sasquatch Books Website
Sasquatch Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House, required a modern, scalable digital platform that elevated its editorial voice while integrating seamlessly into Penguin Random House’s enterprise publishing ecosystem. The redesign balances immersive, brand-forward storytelling with intuitive UX, responsive performance, and a modular design system built for long-term growth.
Creatively, the site embraces a bold editorial aesthetic—large-scale photography, strong typography, and intentional color blocking inspired by the book covers themselves. The design system was built to feel both literary and contemporary, blending lifestyle storytelling with retail functionality. The homepage acts as a digital publishing platform, spotlighting authors, new releases, and curated content with a clear visual hierarchy and refined pacing that mirrors the experience of a well-designed print spread.
A core technical achievement was the integration of Penguin Random House’s extensive book database API, enabling dynamic loading of book covers, metadata, contributor information, and publication details. This API-driven architecture ensures real-time accuracy, reduces manual content management, and creates a scalable, future-ready infrastructure aligned with enterprise publishing workflows.
A unique brand challenge was the development of Little Bigfoot, Sasquatch’s children’s imprint, as a fully differentiated digital experience within the same platform. While sharing backend infrastructure, Little Bigfoot operates with its own identity system, visual language, and dedicated blog—Learn + Play—distinct from the main Live + Thrive editorial hub. This multi-brand architecture supports targeted audience engagement without fragmenting the overall ecosystem.
The result is a high-performing, content-driven publishing platform that merges brand strategy, creative direction, UX design, and enterprise-level development. By uniting API-powered automation with a distinct editorial design language and scalable architecture, the redesign strengthens Sasquatch Books’ digital presence while aligning seamlessly with Penguin Random House’s global publishing infrastructure.
Note: While Sasquatch has since rebranded, the core web infrastructure and scalable framework I developed continue to power the platform.
